Bad Peg Head Drilling

Started work on a 1958/59 Harmony Sovereign H1203 and noticed that the Grover 102 tuners someone installed were not sitting straight or flat on the gear head face. Realizing I would have to fill the holes so as to install more appropriate Golden Age Restoration tuners, I turned an exact fitting mahogany dowel on my lathe and pushed it into the holes.

Wow, look how crooked the holes are. See below. Whomever did this either did not care how badly the tuners fit or did not realize that the human hand cannot drill a hole at a perfect 90 degrees to a flat surface. All of the holes are as bad as this.

So, let this be a lesson. Send all repairs and upgrades to your friendly neighborhood luthier who has the equipment required to install tuners correctly.

Please??
